Bag It Movie Screening for World Oceans Day!

It’s World Oceans Day!

June 8th is World Oceans Day, our planet’s biggest celebration of the ocean!

You’re invited to join us at Green Café (10 Nguyễn Khánh Toàn, Da Nang) at 8PM June 8th [view map] to watch a really inspiring documentary on plastics: Bag It.

We worked hard to have the movie coming to town for screening in both English and Vietnamese, so please come and celebrate Mother Nature — while realizing how much plastic your life is and making a discussion on how we can change it.

About plastics

I can say this is one of the biggest environmental problems we’re facing because virtually it’s everywhere and everything is badly affected. Have and look at this slideshow to see how that may happen.

About the movie

People around the world use 500 billion plastic bags every year — single-use disposable bags that we mindlessly throw away. But where is “away?” Where do the bags and other plastics end up, and at what cost to our environment, marine life and human health?

Bag It follows “everyman” Jeb Berrier as he navigates our plastic world. Jeb is not a radical environmentalist, but an average American who decides to take a closer look at our cultural love affair with plastics. Jeb’s journey in this documentary film starts with simple questions: Are plastic bags really necessary? What are plastic bags made from? What happens to plastic bags after they are discarded?

Jeb looks beyond plastic bags and discovers that virtually everything in modern society—from baby bottles, to sports equipment, to dental sealants, to personal care products—is made with plastic or contains potentially harmful chemical additives used in the plastic-making process. When Jeb’s journey takes a personal twist, we see how our crazy-for-plastic world has finally caught up with us and what we can do about it. Today. Right now.
